Michael
Eldridge History of a Musical Career
After 10 years of classical, 2 years of modern piano
training and a year at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, Michael
Eldridge began playing piano in the clubhouse bar of a nine-hole
lighted golf course in 1961 Denver Colorado. No one under the age of
19 was allowed to go into bars without a parent so Michael's mother,
Peg came with him and sat at the piano bar every Friday and Saturday
night so he could earn his $20 per night and $5 - $10 dollars in
tips.
That was the beginning of a 49 year career playing
music, that included four and five star hotels and resorts in 49
states, Germany, Switzerland, Norway, and Sweden. Those jobs allowed
him to travel on side trips to: Italy, France, Belgium, the
Netherlands, England, Scotland, Luxembourg, Lichtenstein, Austria and
Denmark. Michael's music has taken him to 66 countries and 49 states.
Michael was part of a Las Vegas style show group 'The
Hear & Now' from 1967-1971 that played at the Flamingo Hotel in
Las Vegas, Harrah's in Reno and Lake Tahoe, Nevada and King's Palace
in North Lake Tahoe, Nevada as well as major hotels such as: The
Fairmont in Dallas Texas, The Fountainbleau Hotel on Miami Beach,
Florida and the Olympic Hotel in Seattle Washington.
He
still occasionally plays on cruise ships and at nightclubs in the
Dayton / Cincinnati Ohio area, either as a single or with the current
trio he works with. Michael and Stan and Julie Smart (Bass and Drums
respectively) recorded a live jazz trio double CD, 'Live at The
Bistro' in October of 2007. This CD is also available on this
website.
In the last seven years, Michael has been writing
novels and currently has a literary agent, Judith Bruni of Leslie
Rivers International who is marketing a four book private
investigator series to publishers. At age 68, Michael wants to become
a novelist when he grows up. But, he will continue to play music for
as long as he can.
His father, Ted Eldridge played in bands and had his
own bands until he was 93 years old. So, Michael may have a few years
left in his musical fingers.
